Good News for Women: Rs 1500 Installment to be Released Before Diwali for Ladki Bahin Scheme Beneficiaries

Key Highlights

  • Rs 1500 advance installment to be released before Diwali.
  • Two months' benefits (October and November) combined.
  • 2.20 crore women beneficiaries to receive double payments.
  • The scheme supports women aged 21-65 with income under Rs 2.5 lakh.
  • The government aims to aid women ahead of elections.

In a heartwarming move, the Maharashtra government has decided to release an advance installment of Rs 1500 for women beneficiaries under Chief Minister Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana. With the festive season of Diwali just around the corner, this decision will help 2.20 crore women celebrate with joy and enthusiasm.

The government will deposit two months' installments – October and November – together this month. This means that women who are part of the Ladki Bahin Scheme will receive a double benefit before Diwali, ensuring that they can prepare for the celebrations without financial worries.

Why the Early Installment?

The decision comes due to the imposition of the election code of conduct ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections. The BJP-led state government has been committed to supporting women with financial aid through this scheme, launched on July 1, 2024. In total, three installments have already been released under this scheme, and now, the fourth and fifth installments will be combined and deposited before the festive season.

This move is seen as a proactive step to avoid any delays caused by the upcoming elections. The opposition has raised questions about the longevity of the scheme, but the Chief Minister has assured that this initiative will continue for the welfare of women, dismissing the claims that it is temporary.

How the Ladki Bahin Scheme Works

The Chief Minister Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana was introduced by the Maharashtra government, inspired by Madhya Pradesh’s Ladli Bahina Yojana. Women aged between 21 and 65 years, including married, divorced, and widowed women, are eligible for the scheme if their family income is less than Rs 2.5 lakh per year. Each eligible woman receives Rs 1500 every month.

Since the launch of the scheme, Rs 4500 has already been deposited in the accounts of beneficiaries, and this Diwali, an additional Rs 3000 (October and November installments) will be added, bringing the total to Rs 7500 in just five months.

Eligibility Criteria for Ladki Bahin Yojana

To benefit from the scheme, women must meet the following conditions:

  • Age: Between 21 and 65 years.
  • Family income must be less than Rs 2.5 lakh per year.
  • Married, divorced, and widowed women are eligible.

However, some women are excluded from the scheme if:

  • The family income exceeds Rs 2.5 lakh.
  • A family member pays income tax or works in a government department.
  • The family owns a four-wheeler (except for a tractor).
  • The applicant receives benefits from another similar scheme.

This initiative by the Maharashtra government is a thoughtful gesture aimed at helping women celebrate Diwali without financial stress. By depositing two months' worth of benefits, the government is ensuring that these women have the financial support they need during the festive season. The Chief Minister Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana continues to empower women, providing much-needed relief and helping them lead better lives.
