The central government provides rations to millions of people under the Food Security Scheme, offering free rice, wheat, and other grains to the poor. To make this process more convenient, the state government of Madhya Pradesh is launching a new scheme called 'Ration Aapke Dwar' (Ration at Your Doorstep). Under this scheme, beneficiaries will receive their ration directly at their homes, eliminating the need to visit ration shops.

Govind Singh Rajput, Madhya Pradesh's Minister of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection, recently announced that this scheme has been launched as a pilot project in tribal development blocks of the state. The government plans to expand it to the entire state soon. During a press meeting in Guna, alongside Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Rajput said, “We are preparing to make ration delivery door-to-door a reality for the people of Madhya Pradesh.”
As of now, the 'Ration Aapke Dwar' scheme is being trialed in remote villages, with ration being delivered to people’s homes in 89 villages across Madhya Pradesh. The pilot project primarily focuses on reaching tribal and remote areas where accessing ration shops is challenging. The state government intends to shift from a village-to-village system to a door-to-door delivery system in the near future.

To make the distribution process smoother, the Madhya Pradesh government is introducing improvements at Public Distribution System (PDS) shops. The state is especially focused on assisting elderly beneficiaries who face issues due to the inability to provide thumb impressions. These individuals can now receive their rations through authorized nominees.
In Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has been trying to implement a door-to-door ration delivery system for the past three years. While it faced obstacles from the central government, the High Court recently gave a conditional green light to the scheme. The AAP government has now sent the proposal to the Lieutenant Governor (LG) for approval, hoping to bring the scheme to life soon. About 72 lakh people in Delhi are eligible for government ration, including 17 lakh ration cardholders and 30 lakh priority households.
Delhi also follows the One Nation, One Ration Card system. This allows residents from other states with ration cards to claim their government ration in Delhi. The system benefits laborers, daily wage workers, and other migrants who come to Delhi for work. Across 17 states in India, this system is making it easier for beneficiaries to access their ration from any fair price shop using Electronic Point of Sale (E-POS) systems.

The 'Ration Aapke Dwar' scheme is a significant step toward ensuring that all citizens, especially those in remote or underserved areas, receive their essential rations without difficulty. With efforts to improve access through door-to-door deliveries and supportive measures for the elderly, the government is enhancing the welfare system for the most vulnerable sections of society.
