Developed by Mahindra Susten, the project will provide electricity to four Swaraj Tractors manufacturing facilities located in Mohali and Dera Bassi. With an annual generation capacity of approximately 60 million kilowatt-hours (kWh), the solar plant will help reduce around 54,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year. This aligns with Mahindra Group’s broader commitment to sustainability and clean energy adoption in industrial operations.
Hemant Sikka, President of the Farm Equipment Sector at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., highlighted the significance of this initiative. “With this groundbreaking solar project, we are taking a pioneering step in introducing green energy at a large scale in tractor manufacturing. This aligns with our vision of Transforming Farming and Enriching Lives while contributing to a sustainable future.”
Gaganjot Singh, CEO of the Swaraj Division at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., emphasized the project’s role in driving environmental responsibility. “This solar project is a testament to our commitment to creating a cleaner, greener future. By leveraging Mahindra Susten’s expertise, we are confident in achieving our renewable energy goals and supporting Punjab's transition to sustainable energy.”
For Mahindra Susten, this project marks a significant expansion into Punjab as a renewable Independent Power Producer (IPP). Deepak Thakur, Managing Director and CEO of Mahindra Susten Private Limited, stated, “Our vision is to deliver clean and efficient energy solutions to the Commercial and Industrial (C&I) sector. This collaboration with Swaraj Tractors strengthens our mission to drive green energy adoption and support India’s transition to a renewable future.”
The Mahindra Group has long been dedicated to sustainability, with a goal of increasing renewable energy use across its operations. This solar project reinforces its leadership in green energy adoption and sets a new benchmark in the agricultural equipment manufacturing sector.
With this initiative, Swaraj Tractors and Mahindra Susten take a significant step toward reducing carbon footprints, promoting clean energy, and paving the way for a more sustainable industrial landscape in India.
