Farmers in Bihar are being encouraged to cultivate fruits and vegetables alongside traditional crops to increase their income. One such initiative is the Strawberry Development Scheme, under which the state government is offering a subsidy of Rs 3 lakh to boost strawberry cultivation. With the increasing market demand for strawberries, the scheme presents a profitable opportunity for farmers.

Under the Strawberry Development Scheme, farmers are eligible for a 40% subsidy on the cost of cultivation. The government has set the per-hectare cost of strawberry farming at Rs 8.40 lakh, with a subsidy amount of Rs 3.36 lakh that’s provided for each hectare. Additionally, farmers will also receive subsidies on packaging materials such as cardboard and plastic boxes:
The subsidy is applicable for farms ranging from a minimum of 0.25 acres (0.1 hectares) to a maximum of 5 acres (2 hectares).
To apply for the subsidy, farmers need the following documents:
Farmers from 20 districts in Bihar, including Gopalganj, Jehanabad, Saran, Gaya, and Patna, are eligible for this scheme. The government aims to cultivate strawberries across 4 hectares in the Gaya district alone.
Interested farmers can apply online through the official website at horticulture.bihar.gov.in. For additional information, farmers can visit their local horticulture department.
Through this scheme, farmers have the opportunity to diversify their crops, increase their income, and contribute to the growing demand for strawberries in the market.
