In a major step to support farmers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released an additional Rs 2,000 crore to help farmers in Maharashtra. This was announced on October 5, 2024, during the release of the 18th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, which benefits over 9.4 crore farmers across India.

Under the Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana (NSMNY), about 90 lakh farmers in Maharashtra will receive financial assistance of approximately Rs 1,900 crore. This is part of the 5th installment of the scheme, which aims to improve the lives of farmers by offering direct financial support. The goal is to boost agricultural productivity and infrastructure, making it easier for farmers to manage their farms and grow their crops effectively.
At the event, Prime Minister Modi also highlighted several projects that had been completed under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF). These projects focus on enhancing storage, processing, and marketing facilities, which are crucial for post-harvest management. Over 10,066 projects have been approved across the country, with 7,516 already completed. These projects are expected to help farmers store and sell their produce more efficiently, ultimately improving their income.

Another key part of the program is the support for Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). These are groups of farmers who work together to improve their businesses. So far, about 9,200 FPOs have been established, helping 24 lakh farmers, including women and people from marginalized communities. These FPOs have generated an annual turnover of Rs 1,300 crore, contributing to the overall growth of Indian agriculture.
The Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana (NSMNY) is a financial assistance program for farmers in Maharashtra. The state government launched it to offer eligible farmers Rs 6,000 per year, which is divided into three equal installments. This scheme is designed to help farmers with their farming expenses, making it easier for them to maintain and grow their farms.
Farmers who are registered under this scheme can easily check their payment status online. To do this, follow these steps:
To be eligible for the Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana, farmers must be permanent residents of Maharashtra. They should also be registered under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme and must also own cultivable agricultural land.
This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to support farmers and ensure that they have the financial resources needed to continue their essential work in feeding the nation.

With additional funds and infrastructure support, these initiatives aim to enhance agricultural productivity, empower farmers, and ensure long-term growth in the sector, ultimately benefiting the rural economy and securing India's agricultural future.
