The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G), a key initiative by the Indian government, is aimed at providing homes for the homeless and those in need, especially in rural areas. This scheme helps people build or buy homes by offering financial assistance in the form of subsidies. While the urban version of the scheme is called PM Awas Yojana Urban, the rural version is known as PM Awas Yojana Gramin. Recently, there have been important updates to the scheme that now extend benefits to more people, especially farmers.

A new survey under the PM Awas Yojana Gramin is set to begin on October 8. This survey will focus on identifying villagers who are living in kutcha (temporary) houses. These people will be eligible for grants to build pucca (permanent) houses.
According to Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, the last survey was conducted in 2018, but many deserving people were left out. Starting October 8, a new survey will be conducted to include those living in kutcha houses. The rules of the survey have also changed, allowing those with motorcycles or scooters to be eligible. Additionally, households with a monthly income of up to ₹15,000 can now also benefit from the scheme.
