The price reduction will benefit all consumers, including Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries. There's now speculation about potential cuts in petrol and diesel prices. This move comes after a stable period of fuel prices for over a year.
Alongside the LPG price cut, the government has extended the subsidy for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries for an extra year, offering additional financial support.
Consumers can enjoy the Rs 100 discount from midnight on March 8, according to the Petroleum Ministry spokesperson.
The revised price for a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder in most cities will be approximately Rs 803, with GST and additional taxes being applied separately following PM Modi's announcement. In Delhi, the new price will be Rs 803, in Kolkata it will be Rs 829, and in Mumbai, the price will be Rs 802.50, excluding taxes.
The reduction in LPG cylinder prices, impacting over 31 crore 40 lakh families in the country, including more than 10 crore 27 lakh Ujjwala beneficiaries as of March 1, 2024, aims to provide financial relief to a significant portion of the population.
Consumers are eagerly anticipating a reduction in commercial cylinder prices following the recent LPG price decrease. Oil companies raised prices on March 1, 2024, and the government is taking steps to address public concerns. The focus is on further developments, especially in the lead-up to the Lok Sabha elections.
