Key Highlights:
• Godrej Agrovet partners with Indian agriculture organizations.
• The initiative aims to bridge the gender gap in agri-business.
• The collaboration focuses on skill-building and capacity enhancement for women in agriculture.
Today is International Women's Day, and Godrej Agrovet has announced a new initiative to encourage women into farming. It is believed that farming is predominantly a male occupation, but recent data from India shows a different picture.
It reveals that a 86.1 million women, constituting 60% of all female workers in the country, are actively engaged in agriculture.
Role of Women in the Agriculture Sector
In rural parts of India, where farming is essential for survival, 84% of women depend on agriculture for their livelihoods. But still, there are more men than women in agri-businesses. This shows there's a need to help women get into these jobs too.

Empowering Women Through Training
Godrej Agrovet, Agriculture Skill Council of India and the Future Agriculture Leaders of India, are starting a project to train and empower 100,000 women in farming.
This initiative intends to improve women's employment opportunities and financial security. Balram Singh Yadav, the Managing Director of Godrej Agrovet, says it's urgent to make an environment where women can grow in farming and agri-businesses. He says it's important to see and use the skills of women to make development last long.
Mallika Mutreja, who takes care of Human Resources at Godrej Agrovet, says making farming more women-friendly is important. She says we need to fix unfair things and follow the best ways to let women farmers shine.
Teaming up with the Agriculture Skill Council of India shows they're serious about teaching and improving skills for women in farming and related fields. By filling gaps and teaching new skills, they hope to help women succeed in farming's changing world.
On International Women's Day, Godrej Agrovet's project shows how much they care about fairness and growth in farming. It tells us that helping women isn't just a nice thing to do – it's also smart for making development that lasts.
CMV360 Says
This step highlights the significant role women play in agriculture and the need to empower them further. By acknowledging and addressing the existing gender disparities in the sector, initiatives like Godrej Agrovet's partnership provide women with better opportunities for economic independence and professional growth.
Empowering women in agriculture will benefit them individually. As a result, it will contribute to the overall development and sustainability of rural communities and the agricultural industry.
