The Central Government has announced a significant increase in the minimum wage rates for workers across various sectors, effective from October 1, 2024. This move aims to address the rising cost of living and ensure fair wages for workers, especially those in the unorganized sectors like agriculture, construction, and housekeeping.

The revised minimum wages will benefit workers across different skill levels (unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled, and highly skilled) and geographical regions (Areas A, B, and C). This includes those involved in construction, loading and unloading, sweeping, cleaning, housekeeping, mining, and agricultural work within establishments covered under the central sphere.
Here’s a breakdown of the revised wages in Area A:
In addition to Area A, the revised minimum wages for Areas B and C are also seeing a substantial increase for workers engaged in similar sectors like building, cleaning, loading, and unloading. This wage hike reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring fair compensation and protecting the financial well-being of workers across all regions.
The Central Government adjusts the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) twice a year, in April and October, to account for changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for industrial workers. This ensures that minimum wages stay aligned with the cost of living, offering much-needed relief to workers in times of rising inflation.
This revision of minimum wages is a crucial step toward improving the financial conditions of workers, especially those working in sectors like agriculture, housekeeping, and construction. With these new rates coming into effect from October 1, workers will now have the chance to earn wages that better match the growing cost of living in the country.
