Farmers in Gujarat have received good news with the state government increasing the subsidy for building grain storage units. The financial assistance, which was earlier capped at ₹75,000, has now been raised to ₹1 lakh. This step aims to support farmers in safely storing their produce and getting better prices in the market.

The Gujarat government, under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, has launched various initiatives to increase farmer’s incomes. One such scheme, the Chief Minister's Crop Storage Structure Scheme, helps farmers set up grain storage facilities on their farms.
Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel explained that the scheme provides 50% of the total cost or up to ₹1 lakh in assistance for constructing storage units. Farmers need to build a minimum 330-square-foot structure to qualify for the subsidy.
Farmers often faced challenges in storing their crops after harvest, leading to losses due to natural disasters or low market prices. Without proper storage, they were forced to sell their produce at lower rates. To address this issue, the Gujarat government launched the scheme in 2021-22 to encourage farmers to build storage units.
These facilities help maintain crop quality, allowing farmers to sell their produce when prices are favorable for them.

From 2021 to 2024, over 36,600 farmers in Gujarat have received subsidies totaling ₹184.27 crore under this scheme. With the increased subsidy, 13,982 farmers have already been approved to construct new storage facilities this year.
These storage units, with a capacity of 16-17 metric tonnes, can protect crops from rain, hailstorms, theft, and other disasters. Farmers now have a better chance of preserving their harvest and earning higher profits.
Farmers in Gujarat can apply for the subsidy under the Mukhya Mantri Fasal Bhandaran Yojana. The state government will provide up to ₹1 lakh or 50% of the cost, whichever is lower, for eligible applicants.
This move underscores the government's commitment to boosting agricultural growth and supporting farmers in achieving financial stability.

The increased subsidy for grain storage under the Chief Minister's Crop Storage Scheme will empower Gujarat's farmers to protect their crops, ensure quality, and earn better prices. By addressing storage challenges, this initiative supports sustainable farming and boosts farmers incomes, strengthening agriculture as a profitable and reliable livelihood in the state.
