In a significant move to support low-income families, the Rajasthan government has introduced a new scheme that provides free domestic gas for one month. This initiative is part of the broader effort to make energy accessible and affordable for all.

In many states, LPG cylinders are being sold to economically disadvantaged families for just ₹450. This pricing is made possible through a combination of central and state subsidies. Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, the central government offers a subsidy of ₹300 on LPG cylinders, while the state government adds its own subsidy for eligible families. As a result, the total cost of the cylinder, which is normally ₹806, becomes much more manageable for these families.
On top of this existing support, the Rajasthan government, in collaboration with Rajasthan State Gas Limited (RSGL), has launched a new incentive scheme aimed at promoting green energy. Starting September 20 and running until October 4, the first 1,000 consumers in Kota who apply for a new Domestic PNG (DPNG) connection will receive free gas for about a month.

This initiative aims to encourage households to switch to pipeline gas, which is not only economical but also safer and more environmentally friendly. By utilizing pipeline connections, consumers will no longer need to worry about repeatedly booking or replacing gas cylinders. This new approach simplifies the process of accessing domestic gas.
Those interested in availing of the DPNG connection can contact RSGL's Kota office. The scheme promises to provide 3.3 standard cubic meters (SCM) of gas free of charge in each billing cycle for a total of three billing cycles. This means significant savings for families as they transition to a more sustainable energy source.
In addition to the free gas initiative, the Rajasthan government continues to provide subsidies on domestic LPG cylinders. Since September 1, 2024, around 68 lakh families enrolled in the National Food Security Scheme have been able to purchase LPG cylinders for just ₹450 each. This program, funded by the state government, will require an additional budget of approximately ₹200 crore.

The new free LPG scheme, alongside the ongoing subsidies for gas cylinders, showcases the Rajasthan government’s commitment to supporting families and promoting green energy. By making domestic gas more accessible, the government aims to enhance the quality of life for its citizens while fostering an environmentally friendly future.
