Consultation with Farmers in Hisar

Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini recently held a pre-budget consultation meeting in Hisar at Chaudhary Charan Singh Agricultural University. During the meeting, progressive farmers and agricultural experts shared insights on improving the state’s farming sector. Over 52 farmers participated in the discussion, offering suggestions to make farming more profitable.

The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s focus on increasing farmers' income, particularly for small-scale farmers who own limited land. “Seventy percent of our farmers have small land holdings. We need strategies that enable them to earn better incomes through innovative approaches like e-mandis and alternative farming options,” he said.

Encouraging Crop Diversification

Farmers were encouraged to diversify their crops to move away from traditional farming methods. The Chief Minister urged them to explore alternatives like coarse grains and high-value crops. He highlighted examples of successful ventures such as strawberry cultivation in Syahdwa, Hisar, as a model for innovative farming practices.

How Farmers Can Share Suggestions for the Budget

To ensure wider participation, the Haryana government has launched an online portal where farmers, citizens, and representatives from Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) can submit their ideas for the 2025-26 budget. The portal is designed to make it easier for stakeholders to share their views, which will be reviewed for inclusion in the budget.

Key Schemes Supporting Haryana Farmers

The Haryana government already runs several initiatives to benefit farmers. Here are some of the notable schemes:

  1. Tractor Subsidy Scheme: - Under this scheme, Scheduled Caste farmers receive a subsidy of ₹1 lakh for purchasing tractors with 45 HP or higher.
  2. My Crop, My Details (Meri Fasal Mera Byora): - This scheme ensures transparency in providing government benefits. Farmers register their crops on an online portal to access benefits like crop loss compensation and loan waivers.
  3. Kisan Input Scheme: - This program provides subsidies for certified and hybrid seeds. During the recent Rabi season, farmers received ₹1,000 per quintal as a subsidy for high-quality seeds.
  4. My Water My Heritage Scheme: - To tackle water scarcity, this scheme offers ₹7,000 per acre for cultivating water-efficient crops instead of water-intensive paddy. It aims to curb over-exploitation of water in farming, particularly in areas facing critical shortages.

A Collaborative Effort for Farmer’s Welfare

The Haryana government’s proactive approach to involving farmers in the budget process reflects its commitment to their welfare. By combining innovative ideas with supportive policies, the state aims to boost agricultural growth and improve farmer’s livelihoods.

Farmers are encouraged to make use of the government’s online platform to share their suggestions and become active participants in shaping a budget that works for them.
