The government has announced a major step to empower rural farmers by distributing land pattas (property cards) under the Pradhan Mantri Swamitva YojanaThis initiative will benefit 58 lakh villagers across 50,000 villages in 12 states and two union territories, offering them legal ownership of their land.

What is the Ownership Scheme?

In cities, property ownership is backed by official government records, enabling property owners to secure loans and access government schemes easily. However, rural areas often lack such records, leaving farmers unable to prove ownership, access loans, or resolve disputes effectively.

To address this, the government launched the Swamitva Yojana on April 24, 2020. The scheme uses advanced drone and GIS technology to map land and provide property cards to rural residents. These cards ensure legal ownership, allowing farmers to access loans, government benefits, and settle disputes more efficiently.
