Wholesale Mango Prices Drop Across Key Mandis

In the early stages of the mango season, wholesale prices of this tropical fruit have experienced a notable drop in various important markets across India. According to data from the Agmarknet portal managed by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, as of April 5, 2024, the average monthly wholesale prices of mangoes have decreased by Rs 355.56 to Rs 7,488.29 per quintal.

Kerala and Punjab Witness Major Decreases

Among the regions, Kerala stands out with a substantial decline of 20.82%, reaching Rs 4,123 per quintal, followed by Punjab with a 7.7% decrease to Rs 6,767 per quintal.

Price Shifts in Different States

Several other states and union territories have also witnessed drops in mango prices. In Haryana, prices fell by approximately 2.1% to Rs 8,956, while in Jammu and Kashmir, they decreased by about 1.9% to Rs 10,902. Rajasthan saw a decline of almost 1.4% to Rs 9,129, and Delhi experienced a decrease of around 2.4% to Rs 14,180 per quintal.

Contrasting Trends in Some Regions

However, the scenario is different in Chhattisgarh, Goa, and Gujarat, where mango prices have seen an increase. Gujarat recorded a significant rise of 20.4% to Rs 5,498 per quintal, while Uttar Pradesh observed a modest increase of about 3% to Rs 8,283.

Importance of Mango Harvest Season

Mangoes are harvested during the spring season, spanning from March to June. Major mango-producing states in India include Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra.
