The Central Government has announced a significant relief package to support states affected by floods and other disasters caused by heavy rains. An advance relief amount of Rs 675 crore has been released from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for Gujarat, Manipur, and Tripura. This move comes after many parts of the country experienced more than usual rainfall, resulting in severe damage to crops and properties.

These states were severely affected by heavy rains, floods, and landslides during the monsoon season. The assistance is aimed at providing relief to farmers and residents in these states who faced crop losses and property damage.
Before the Central Government's relief package, the Gujarat government had already taken steps to support its farmers. In July, a state relief package of Rs 350 crore was announced to help farmers whose crops were damaged by heavy rains in nine districts, including Porbandar, Junagadh, Rajkot, and others. These areas experienced a significant loss of agriculture, and the state conducted surveys to assess the damage before releasing funds.

Flood conditions have persisted in states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, worsened by the release of water from Nepal. Crops and homes have been heavily impacted in these regions. The central government has assured that it will provide further assistance once damage reports are received from the inter-ministerial central teams (IMCT). Teams will soon be sent to Bihar and West Bengal to assess the flood damage.
This year, several states, including Gujarat, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram, Assam, and Telangana, have suffered severe losses due to extreme weather conditions like heavy rains, floods, and landslides.
So far in 2024, the central government has released over Rs 9,000 crore to 21 states from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). Additionally, more than Rs 4,500 crore has been distributed to 15 states from the NDRF. Further, a relief package of Rs 1,385 crore has been provided to 11 states from the State Disaster Reduction Fund to aid in recovery efforts.
