The Punjab Government acknowledged 11 farmers from various blocks of the district with the title of "Vatavaran De Rakhe" (Protectors of the Environment) in an effort to promote eco-friendly and sustainable farming techniques while prohibiting the burning of rice stubble. These farmers have set a good example by not burning paddy stubble.

By refraining from stubble burning, they have not only contributed to improving air quality but have also preserved the soil health, water resources, and biodiversity in the region.

The award ceremony was held in the district administrative complex and was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Captain Karnail Singh, who praised the farmers for their commitment to environmentally responsible methods. Lal Biswas, SDM of Kapurthala, and Jaspreet Singh, SDM of Sultanpur Lodhi, both attended the occasion.

He emphasized the priceless message they provide by protecting the ecosystem, soil fertility, and beneficial insects. Deputy Commissioner Captain Karnail Singh also advised other farmers to be inspired by these environmentally concerned farmers and urged all farmers to employ agricultural machinery subsidized by the government to manage paddy stubble.

The agriculture and farmer welfare ministries have been actively conducting awareness campaigns throughout the district, benefiting local farmers. The Deputy Commissioner also underlined the need for farmers, cooperative societies, and farmer groups in the district to use machinery for paddy straw management and make it available to other farmers as soon as possible. He also stated that in the future, more such farmers would be acknowledged for their environmentally friendly initiatives.

According to Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Naresh Kumar Gulati, these farmers were chosen and handed certificates under the Atma system based on recommendations from all of the district's blocks.

These awards recognize Punjab's farmers' commitment to sustainable and environmentally responsible farming practices, emphasizing the necessity of preserving the state's natural resources and protecting the environment.

The Punjab government has implemented various initiatives to support farmers in transitioning to sustainable agricultural practices, including tractor loans, subsidies on farm equipment, and access to expert guidance. These efforts aim to make eco-friendly farming methods more accessible and economically viable.

This initiative is expected to have impacts on Punjab's agricultural industry and air quality. By acknowledging and incentivizing the efforts of environmentally conscious farmers, the government is taking significant steps toward a cleaner and healthier future for the state.
