Farmers in Odisha have good news this year. The state government will provide them with a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹3100 per quintal for paddy. This includes ₹2300 as MSP set by the central government and an additional ₹800 as a bonus. The bonus aims to help farmers with input costs like seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. The Chief Minister will officially release this payment on December 8, and the money will be directly transferred to farmer’s bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

The ₹800 bonus is meant to support farmers who often face challenges like floods, droughts, and pest attacks. The Chief Minister emphasized that this "input assistance" will help farmers recover from losses caused by natural disasters.
The decision to give ₹3100 per quintal was part of the BJP’s election manifesto in Odisha. The government approved this proposal in its first cabinet meeting. A state-level farmer’s conference will be held on December 8 in Sohela, Bargarh district, where the Chief Minister will release the funds. Farmers will receive the payment within 48 hours of the announcement.
The Odisha government has launched several initiatives to improve farmer’s income, including the CM Kisan Yojana, which has a budget of ₹1935 crore. Key components of this scheme include:
Farmers in Odisha are also beneficiaries of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, a central scheme that provides ₹6000 annually. This is in addition to the CM Kisan Yojana, giving farmers dual benefits from both the state and central governments.
These efforts aim to increase farmer’s income, improve their livelihood, and make farming a more sustainable profession in Odisha.
