Majhi Ladki Behan Yojana: Changes Could Remove Some Women's Names from the List

Key Highlights

  • Ineligible women may be removed from the Majhi Ladki Behan Yojana list.
  • Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hinted at updating the criteria.
  • Women with family income above Rs 2,50,000 may lose eligibility.
  • The sixth installment of the scheme is expected by December 25.
  • No immediate increase in the financial aid amount under the scheme.

Maharashtra's Majhi Ladki Behan Yojana, similar to Madhya Pradesh’s Ladli Behna Yojana, has been helping women across the state. However, a major update has emerged. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently hinted that some women’s names could be removed from the scheme if they do not meet the eligibility criteria. This could affect many women who have been benefiting from the program.

If you're a beneficiary of the Majhi Ladki Behan Yojana, this update is important for you. Let’s take a look at what changes may be coming and how it affect the scheme.

What Did the Chief Minister Say?

CM Devendra Fadnavis explained that, just like in the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, some people who did not meet the criteria were initially included. When this issue was identified, the government corrected it. Fadnavis stated that if any woman under the Majhi Ladki Behan Yojana is found to be ineligible, her name may be removed. However, if a woman already receiving benefits meets the criteria, she will continue to receive the benefits.

Why Were Names Removed in Other Schemes?

In the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, which provides financial aid to farmers, many ineligible farmers were initially included. Once this was discovered, the government updated the rules and removed these farmers from the list. The same approach might be followed with the Majhi Ladki Behan Yojana if women do not meet the set eligibility conditions.

Who Can Be Removed from the Scheme?

According to the rules, women who do not meet the following conditions will be removed from the scheme:

  • Family Income: If the combined annual income of the woman’s family exceeds Rs 2,50,000.
  • Income Taxpayer: If any family member is an income taxpayer.
  • Government Job: If any family member is a regular or permanent employee of the government or receives a pension.
  • Other Government Assistance: If the woman is already getting Rs 1500 or more under any other government scheme.
  • Political or Government Positions: If any family member is a current or former MP, or holds any significant government position.
  • Four-Wheeler Ownership: If the woman’s family owns a registered four-wheeler (except a tractor).

Who Can Benefit from the Scheme?

The Majhi Ladki Behan Yojana is designed to help specific women under these conditions:

  • The woman must be a permanent resident of Maharashtra.
  • The woman’s age should be between 21 and 65 years.
  • The woman must have an Aadhaar-linked bank account.
  • The woman’s family income should not exceed Rs 2,50,000 annually.
  • Eligible women can be married, divorced, widowed, abandoned, or destitute.
  • Unmarried women from eligible families can also benefit.

Will the Amount Increase?

Currently, the scheme provides Rs 1500 per month to eligible women. CM Fadnavis mentioned that while the government will continue providing the promised amount of Rs 2100 in the future, no immediate increase in the amount is expected. However, the government may consider this increase during the next budget session.

When Will the Next Installment Be Released?

The sixth installment of the Majhi Ladki Behan Yojana is expected to be released by December 25. Beneficiaries are eagerly awaiting the next round of payments.

CMV360 Says

Women in Maharashtra benefiting from the Majhi Ladki Behan Yojana must meet specific eligibility criteria to continue receiving benefits. If they fail to meet these conditions, their names may be removed. The government is committed to ensuring the scheme supports only eligible women, with the sixth installment expected by December 25.
