The Himachal Pradesh government has taken a big step to support farmers and promote organic farming. Farmers in the state will now get Rs 300 per quintal for producing vermicompost and organic manure from cow dung. This move aims to increase farmer’s income and encourage sustainable farming practices.

During an event in Bilaspur district, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu announced this scheme as part of six new initiatives to support women, children, the elderly, and farmers. In addition to launching the scheme, Rs 1 lakh was transferred to the bank accounts of 100 farmers under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
The Chief Minister also launched the Himachal Pradesh Subtropical Horticulture, Irrigation, and Value Addition Project, known as HP Shiva. This project, with a budget of Rs 1,292 crore, aims to expand the cultivation of fruits like oranges, guava, litchi, and plums across 6,000 hectares in seven districts. Over 15,000 farming families are expected to benefit directly from this initiative.
To promote natural farming, the Chief Minister introduced "Himbhog Atta," starting with maize flour and later adding wheat flour. This flour will be made from crops grown using natural methods. Financial assistance of Rs 1.90 crore was also distributed to 197 beneficiaries under the Chief Minister Sukh-Aashray Yojana.

Under the Rajiv Gandhi Self-Employment Start-up Scheme 2023, 16 electric taxi owners received keys to their vehicles. The government provided a 50% subsidy and announced plans to lease taxis to government offices for five years. In the scheme's first phase, permits will be issued to 150 e-taxi owners.
The Chief Minister also launched the Indira Gandhi Sukh Shiksha Yojana, which provides monthly assistance of Rs 1,000 to children below 18 years from widows, poor women, divorced women, or disabled parents. Financial aid is also offered for higher education and welfare.
To improve healthcare access in remote tribal areas, five mobile AYUSH health service units were flagged off. These units will provide Ayurveda, Unani, and Homeopathy treatments in areas like Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, and Sirmaur.
The Himachal government’s initiatives aim to strengthen farmer’s incomes and welfare while promoting organic farming, horticulture, and rural employment. Farmers and residents in Himachal Pradesh are set to benefit from these schemes in multiple ways, fostering sustainable development across the state.
