The Haryana government has started the new year with great news for paddy farmers. A bonus of ₹90 crore has been released under the Drought Relief Scheme to support farmers affected by adverse climatic conditions. The bonus provides ₹2,000 per acre to paddy farmers, offering much-needed financial relief.
The announcement was made by Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana at his office in Chandigarh. The funds will be directly transferred to farmer’s accounts, ensuring transparency and ease of access.

The decision to provide this bonus comes after Haryana experienced lower-than-average rainfall during the 2023 Kharif season, which increased crop production costs for farmers.
Under the Drought Relief Scheme, even farmers with less than one acre of land are eligible for the ₹2,000 subsidy per acre.
“This initiative aims to help paddy farmers manage the financial strain caused by unfavorable weather. The government is committed to empowering farmers and creating a sustainable agricultural environment,” said Minister Rana.
After announcing the bonus, the minister held pre-budget discussions with officials from agriculture, horticulture, and allied sectors. He urged them to design budget frameworks with farmer’s best interests in mind.
Farmers in Haryana currently receive 40–50% subsidies on equipment under the Agricultural Equipment Grant Scheme.

The Haryana State Agriculture and Marketing Board was instructed to improve facilities for farmers and workers in agricultural markets.
The government also plans to expand the National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) platform. Farmers can register on e-NAM to sell their produce online, giving them access to buyers across the country and ensuring better prices for their crops.
To curb stubble burning, the government will reward Gram Panchayats that actively prevent such incidents. Haryana offers farmers ₹1,000 per acre as an incentive for not burning stubble. Additionally, the government is providing subsidized agricultural equipment to help manage crop residues effectively.
During his address, Minister Rana highlighted efforts to tackle the sale of fake seeds, pesticides, and fertilizers. Strict action is being taken against offenders to safeguard farmers from financial losses.
Launched by Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini, the Drought Relief Scheme is designed to support farmers during challenging climatic conditions. Key highlights include:
The scheme was introduced after heavy crop losses due to insufficient rainfall in 2023. This bonus provides significant relief to farmers struggling with higher production costs.
