The government has secured 34.81 lakh metric tons (LMT) of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer for the upcoming Rabi 2024-25 season, overcoming significant global challenges. This ensures farmers will have adequate fertilizer supplies to meet their crop needs.

India relies heavily on imports for 60% of its DAP supply, with domestic production also dependent on imported raw materials. This year, issues like the Red Sea crisis and reduced exports from key suppliers disrupted shipments. These problems forced vessels carrying essential materials, such as phosphoric acid, to take longer routes, causing delivery delays.
Despite these hurdles, the government took swift action. From October to November 2024, India imported and distributed over 17 LMT of DAP to various states. Additionally, 6.50 LMT were produced domestically during the same period, boosting the total supply to 23 LMT, excluding buffer stocks.
The government continues to work closely with state authorities, railways, and fertilizer companies to resolve localized supply issues. These efforts ensure the timely delivery of fertilizers, especially DAP, to farmers across the country.

The availability of NPKS (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium, and Sulfur) fertilizers has also improved, with stocks reaching 55.14 LMT. Farmers in major agricultural states like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have increased their use of NPKS fertilizers by 5 lakh tons compared to the last Rabi season. Nationwide, NPKS usage has grown by 10 lakh tons, indicating a shift toward balanced fertilizer application.
Currently, the total availability of DAP stands at 34.81 LMT. This combined with ample stocks of NPKS fertilizers, highlights the government's commitment to supporting farmers and ensuring a successful Rabi season despite global supply chain disruptions.
This proactive approach demonstrates the government's dedication to overcoming challenges and meeting the needs of the agricultural sector.
