Key Highlights

  • Free electricity for private tube wells during the Kharif season.
  • 100% subsidy on electricity bills for eligible farmers.
  • Eligibility: UP farmers only, with a meter installed.
  • Apply online or offline with the required documents.

The state government has announced a new scheme to provide free electricity to farmers for private tube wells during the Kharif season. This move aims to help farmers with irrigation as they prepare to sow Kharif crops like paddy with the onset of the monsoon.

Which Farmers Will Benefit?

The scheme will benefit farmers who have private tube wells and do not have any pending electricity bills before March 2023. If a farmer has any outstanding bills, they must be paid off completely to qualify for the free electricity.

How Can Farmers Take Advantage of the Scheme?

Farmers can benefit from this scheme through three options provided by the Energy Department:

  1. First Option: Farmers who pay all outstanding electricity bills will receive a 100% waiver on interest and late surcharge.
  2. Second Option: Farmers can pay their dues in three installments and get a 90% rebate on interest and late surcharge.
  3. Third Option: Farmers can pay their outstanding bills in six installments and receive an 80% discount on interest and surcharge.

Which Farmers Will Not Get the Benefit?

Farmers who fail to pay their outstanding electricity bills on time or miss any installment will not be eligible for the scheme. It is essential for farmers to follow the rules and conditions strictly to benefit from the scheme.

Eligibility and Conditions for the Scheme

  • Farmers must have no pending electricity bills as of March 2023.
  • A meter must be installed on the farmer's private tube well.
  • The monthly consumption limit is 1045 units for loads of 10 AP. Usage beyond this limit will be billed as per the standard tariff.
  • Only farmers from Uttar Pradesh (UP) are eligible as the scheme is launched by the UP government.

How to Apply for Free Electricity Scheme

Farmers need to register on the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana or Transparent Kisan Seva Portal to apply for the scheme. Applications can be submitted online or offline:
