The government has announced that it will provide subsidies for installing solar pumps for farmers. A total of 54,000 solar pumps will be given to farmers across the country. This initiative aims to help farmers afford solar pumps, which can reduce their reliance on traditional power sources.
Different subsidies will be offered based on the horsepower (HP) of the solar pump. Here's a breakdown of the subsidy amounts for each HP:
Farmers will need to pay a token money of Rs 5,000 when applying for the solar pump.
To apply for the solar pump subsidy, farmers must register on the official website of the department (https://agriculture.up.gov.in/). Once registered, farmers can book their solar pump through the departmental website (https://agriculture.up.gov.in/) by clicking on the "Booking for solar pump on grant" link. Benefits of the scheme will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.
After receiving the subsidy, farmers will need to pay the remaining amount due for the solar pump. They can choose to pay the full amount themselves or take out a bank loan to cover the costs. The remaining payment must be made within 14 days of confirmation of the token.
Here's a breakdown of the remaining payments for each HP:
For other HP solar pumps, farmers will need to calculate the remaining amount based on the total fixed price minus the subsidy amount.
There are a few additional things to keep in mind when applying for the solar pump subsidy:
Suitable solar pumps include:
New solar pumps cannot be installed in exploited and over-exploited areas unless the farmer uses micro irrigation technology to convert existing diesel pump sets into solar pumps. Farmers can also apply for a solar pump by taking out a loan from a bank. An interest subsidy will be offered as per rules from the Agricultural Infrastructure Fund (AIF).

To sum up, the government is providing a subsidy on 54,000 solar pumps for farmers, covering various horsepower ranges. The subsidy amount varies based on the HP of the pump. Interested farmers can apply through the official Agriculture Department website, and they should note the conditions related to water levels and eligibility criteria. By adopting solar pumps, farmers can embrace sustainable farming practices and lower electricity costs.
