In a significant move aimed at supporting agricultural infrastructure and empowering farmers, the government has allocated a whopping Rs 908 crore for solar pump subsidies. This initiative is set to facilitate more farmers in accessing essential irrigation facilities. Under the PM Kusum Yojana, a pivotal scheme, both the Central and State Governments are joining forces to provide crucial support to farmers across the nation. Recently, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Bhajan Lal Sharma, announced the distribution of approval letters for the PM Kusum Solar Pump Plant at a ceremony in Jaipur.

Efforts are underway to enhance irrigation facilities for farmers through various schemes and projects. The recent approval will enable approximately 50,000 farmers in Rajasthan to benefit from subsidized solar pumps, with the government earmarking a total expenditure of about Rs 1830 crore for this purpose.
Farmers availing themselves of solar pumps under the PM Kusum Yojana stand to gain substantial subsidies. Both the Central and Rajasthan Governments offer a 60 percent subsidy on solar pumps. Additionally, scheduled caste and scheduled tribe farmers receive a separate grant of Rs 45,000 from the state. These incentives aim to make solar pump installation financially feasible for farmers, ensuring widespread adoption across the state.
The cost of installing solar pumps varies based on capacity and type. For instance, a 5 HP capacity solar panel installation using an AC plant costs around Rs 92,522, whereas opting for a DC solar pump of the same capacity amounts to approximately Rs 90,184. Similarly, a 7.5 HP AC solar panel installation costs Rs 1,34,176, while its DC counterpart costs Rs 1,40,883.
Farmers interested in availing themselves of solar pump subsidies must adhere to a streamlined application process. Essential documents include land seizure records not exceeding six months, land maps, an irrigation certificate validating the need for micro-irrigation, and valid identification documents such as Aadhar Card, Bhamashah Card, or Jan Aadhar Card.
To initiate the application process, farmers must obtain quotations from authorized companies listed by the Agriculture or Horticulture Departments. Following this, they can approach the Agriculture Department in their respective districts for guidance and apply for the subsidy through e-Mitra under the Kusum Yojana. Subsidies are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
The installation of solar pumps offers myriad benefits to farmers. Notably, it reduces electricity consumption by half, leading to substantial savings on electricity bills. Additionally, farmers can bid farewell to diesel dependency, further conserving resources and cutting costs. Solar pumps ensure round-the-clock irrigation, providing farmers with greater flexibility and control over their cultivation practices. In essence, the allocation of Rs 908 crore for solar pump subsidies marks a significant stride towards fostering sustainable agriculture practices and uplifting the farming community in Rajasthan.
