In many states across India, the recent onslaught of rain and hailstorms has wreaked havoc on farmer’s crops, leaving them grappling with significant losses. Recognizing the difficulty of these farmers, state governments have initiated measures to provide timely relief. A comprehensive survey has been ordered to assess the extent of crop damage, aiming to accelerate the process of compensation.

In April, regions like Haryana witnessed substantial crop damage and agriculture crises due to unrelenting rain and hailstorms. Many farmers, amidst the crucial harvesting season, found their crops destroyed, increasing their financial woes. In response, the state government has pledged compensation for affected farmers. However, before relief can be spent, a meticulous assessment of the damage through a government-ordered survey is vital.
Following the recent series of adverse weather conditions, the Chief Minister of Haryana personally surveyed affected areas to gauge the severity of the situation. Notably, regions like Indri in Karnal bore the brunt of heavy hailstorms, resulting in substantial losses for farmers. The Chief Minister's proactive involvement underscores the government's commitment to alleviating farmer’s hardships.

Farmers who have insured their Rabi crops under the PM Fasal Beema Yojana stand to benefit from compensation by the scheme's provisions. Compensation is typically granted if crop damage exceeds 33 percent, offering a safety net for farmers against various natural calamities. To avail compensation, farmers must register crop loss information on designated portals and undergo verification procedures.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Beema Yojana, compensation is extended for crop damage caused by a range of natural calamities, including drought, floods, hailstorms, and more. Farmers are required to pay a nominal premium to insure their crops, with rates varying based on the type of crop and season. Additionally, coverage extends to horticulture and commercial crops, but with slightly higher premium rates.
As the survey to assess crop damage progresses, affected farmers are urged to register their losses promptly to accelerate the compensation process. The coordinated efforts of government authorities and farmer’s proactive engagement are pivotal in ensuring timely relief and support amidst these challenging times.
