As the procurement of Rabi crops continues across the nation, the Rajasthan government has implemented a significant measure aimed at supporting farmers amid plummeting prices of gram and mustard. In a bid to provide relief to farmers grappling with market fluctuations, the state government has raised the registration limit for the purchase of gram and mustard, allowing farmers to sell their surplus produce at Minimum Support Price (MSP) with greater flexibility.

The decision to increase the registration limit comes in response to the adverse impact of a declining gram and mustard prices on farmer’s income. Many farmers have found themselves compelled to sell their produce below the MSP due to market pressures. Recognizing this predicament, the Rajasthan government's move is assured to alleviate the financial strain on farmers.
With the registration limit expanded by 10 percent, even those farmers who hadn't previously registered to sell their gram and mustard crops at MSP stand to benefit. According to the Managing Director of Rajfed, a total of 68,386 farmers in the state will now enjoy additional advantages. This measure is expected to empower more farmers to access MSP benefits, thereby stabilizing their income.
The MSP for mustard and gram, set by the central government, stands at Rs 5650 per quintal and Rs 5440 per quintal respectively. Thus far, over 5 lakh farmers in Rajasthan have registered for the sale of these crops. Specifically, by April 16 around 2,52,319 farmers had registered for mustard, and 33,282 for gram. Out of the total registrations, the government has allocated selling dates to 66,424 farmers, comprising 52,547 for mustard and 13,877 for gram. Notably, purchases amounting to approximately 44,665 metric tons of mustard and gram have already been made from 20,675 farmers, totaling Rs 252 crore.
Farmers intending to sell their gram and mustard crops at MSP are urged to register promptly through procurement centers or e-Mitra centers. Necessary documents include Girdawari, bank passbook, and Jan Aadhar card, among others. Rajfed emphasizes the importance of adhering to quality standards, urging farmers to dry and clean their crops adequately before weighing them. Additionally, a farmer helpline (18001806001) has been established to address farmers' concerns and queries promptly.
In light of these initiatives, the Rajasthan government reaffirms its commitment to supporting farmers and ensuring their economic well-being amidst challenging market conditions.
