Let's see some of them mentioned below: -
One of India's pride, Pusa Kesar comes from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in New Delhi. Its bright red roots and heat resistance make it perfect for planting between August and October. In just 90-110 days, farmers can harvest around 30 tonnes per hectare. Known for its high beta-carotene content, Pusa Kesar not only adds color to dishes but also provides essential nutrients.
Another gem from IARI, Pusa Meghali has orange flesh and a compact size. Sow it from August to September, and you'll get a good yield of 25-30 tonnes per hectare. This variety is particularly favored for its adaptability to various climatic conditions across India, making it a reliable choice for farmers in different regions.
From Punjab Agricultural University, Selection 223 has orange roots with light flesh, while No. 29 offers long, reddish roots. Both add to India's carrot diversity. Selection 223 is known for its uniform root shape and resistance to pests and diseases, making it a preferred choice for sustainable farming practices. No. 29, on the other hand, is valued for its long shelf life and rich taste, making it popular among consumers and processors alike.
Nantes Half Long has short, chubby roots with a vibrant orange color, perfect for harvest within 110-120 days. It's favored by farmers for its ease of cultivation and consistent yields. Early Nantes, originally from Europe, is a delicate variety ready in just 90-100 days. Despite its thin skin, it boasts excellent taste and texture, making it a favorite among chefs and home cooks alike for its versatility in culinary applications.
Chantenay, great for canning, has thick, orange roots loved by consumers. Its ability to retain its color and flavor even after processing makes it highly sought after in the food industry. Imperator, with its long, deep orange roots, offers both quality and taste. Farmers appreciate Imperator for its high yield potential and resistance to cracking, ensuring a successful harvest even under challenging conditions. With roots ranging from 15-17.5 cm in length and 2.4-4.5 cm in diameter, Imperator promises both quality and flavor.
Zeno, grown in the Nilgiri hills, gives a high yield and rich flavor. Its adaptability to hilly terrains and cooler climates makes it an ideal choice for farmers in the region. Pusa Yamdagini, from Katrain's Research Station, matures early, giving farmers an advantage. This variety is prized for its disease resistance and uniform root size, ensuring a reliable harvest even in adverse weather conditions.
