The central government is all set to present the General Budget 2025 on February 1. With Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman leading the preparations, people across the nation are eagerly waiting for announcements that could benefit various sectors. Among them, farmers are anticipating significant news regarding the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM Kisan Yojana).
Reports suggest that the government may announce an increase in the financial assistance provided under this scheme. Currently, farmers receive ₹6,000 annually under PM Kisan Yojana, but the amount might be doubled this year.

According to media reports, the Parliamentary Standing Committee, chaired by Charanjit Singh Channi, has urged the Agriculture Ministry to increase the financial aid under PM Kisan Yojana. The committee has proposed raising the amount from ₹6,000 to ₹12,000 annually.
The committee emphasized that the current amount is insufficient to address farmer’s needs, especially with rising inflation. If approved, this increased assistance will help crores of small and marginal farmers across the country. They will be able to purchase essential farming inputs like seeds, fertilizers, and manure more easily, strengthening their financial stability.
Under PM Kisan Yojana, eligible farmers receive ₹6,000 per year in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each. These installments are credited directly to farmer’s bank accounts every four months.
For Budget 2025, there are discussions about increasing the annual amount to ₹10,000, although the Parliamentary Committee has recommended ₹12,000. The final decision is expected to be announced on budget day.
The PM Kisan Yojana was launched in 2019 to provide financial support to farmers for purchasing agricultural essentials. Since its inception, the central government has disbursed over ₹3.45 lakh crore to farmers under the scheme.
The initiative has greatly benefited small and marginal farmers, improving their ability to invest in farming and reducing financial stress. If the proposed increase is implemented, it will provide even greater support to farmers, empowering them further.
So far, 18 installments under PM Kisan Yojana have been released, with the last installment credited in October 2024. Farmers are now eagerly waiting for the 19th installment, which is likely to be released in February 2025.
The installment schedule follows a four-month cycle, ensuring farmers receive timely financial assistance throughout the year.
Doubling the PM Kisan Yojana amount would be a significant step toward addressing farmer’s financial challenges. It would provide much-needed relief to small-scale farmers, enabling them to invest in better resources for their crops and livelihood.
With the General Budget 2025 just days away, all eyes are on the central government to see if this long-standing demand will finally be fulfilled.
