Farmers in Bihar can receive a 50% subsidy for solar-powered cold storage, reducing energy costs and improving produce preservation.
Great news for farmers who grow fruits, flowers, and vegetables! The state government is launching a new initiative to power cold storage’s with solar energy. This move aims to provide a 50 percent subsidy for constructing solar-powered cold storage under the Horticulture Development Programme. The government has allocated ₹28 crore for this scheme, which will help farmers reduce their energy costs and preserve their produce more efficiently.
Farmers can benefit significantly from this scheme. If you install solar panels and reduce the storage capacity of your cold storage by 25 percent, you can receive a subsidy of up to ₹17.50 lakh. This subsidy is part of the Solar Plate Scheme. Additionally, existing cold storage will also receive financial assistance to install solar panels, which will lower their electricity costs.
Under the National Horticulture Mission, the subsidy covers 50 percent of the costs, with a maximum limit of ₹17.50 lakh on an overall cost of ₹35 lakh.

The government will approve subsidies based on the demand for Type-1 or Type-2 cold storage in each district.

Farmers in Bihar can apply for this scheme. The benefit is available in 12 districts: Madhubani, Nawada, Aurangabad, Banka, Saharsa, Jamui, Jehanabad, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, Arwal, and Shivhar.
