Government-subsidized tractor rotavators empower farmers, enhancing efficiency and sustainability in agriculture for a prosperous sector.
As the Rabi crops are harvested, farmers are gearing up for the next planting season. To assist them, the government is offering agricultural implements and machines at subsidized rates through various schemes. One such initiative is the Agricultural Mechanization Scheme, under which states provide subsidies on tractor rotavators to farmers.

A tractor rotavator is a vital farming machine used alongside a tractor, primarily during seed sowing. Its main function involves removing crop residue and mixing it into the soil. This process aids in residue management, ensuring that crop residues like wheat, maize, and sugarcane are buried in the soil, eventually turning into valuable manure.
Under the Agricultural Mechanization Scheme, the state government is offering subsidies on two types of rotavators based on their horsepower (BHP). For rotavators ranging from 20 to 35 BHP, farmers from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Extremely Backward Classes can avail of a subsidy of up to 60%, with a maximum of Rs 25,000. General category farmers are eligible for a 50% subsidy, capped at Rs 20,000.
Similarly, for rotavators above 35 BHP, eligible farmers can receive a subsidy of up to 60%, with a maximum of Rs 30,000 for disadvantaged communities and Rs 25,000 for general-category farmers.

Farmers interested in purchasing rotavators at subsidized rates need to apply online. Necessary documents include an Aadhar card, PAN card, caste certificate, farm papers, bank account details, income certificate, residence certificate, and a registered mobile number linked to Aadhar.
In Bihar, farmers can apply for the subsidy through the Agricultural Mechanization Scheme. Before applying for the OFMAS agricultural mechanization software, registration on the DBT portal of the Agriculture Department, Bihar, is mandatory. Applications without a registration number will not be accepted on OFMAS. Once registered, farmers can apply on the official website of the Agriculture Department (www.farmech.bih.nic.in) or seek guidance from their local Block Agriculture Officer or Assistant Director (Agricultural Engineering) for further assistance.
