The Rajasthan government’s Sahakar Jeevan Bima Suraksha Yojana has provided financial relief to 31 lakh farmers, saving them Rs 172 crore through reduced premium costs. The initiative aims to ensure social security for farmers by covering life insurance premiums for loanee members of primary lending societies.

Minister of State for Cooperation (Independent Charge) Gautam Kumar informed the Assembly that the government’s efficient management has led to this substantial benefit. In 2023-24, farmers paid Rs 360 crore in premiums. However, the government has now reduced this amount, requiring farmers to pay only Rs 186 crore for 2024-25.
The government is committed to extending benefits under the scheme. The Sahakar Jeevan Suraksha Bima Yojana is available for loanee members of primary credit societies, while the Raj Sahakar Personal Accident Insurance Scheme covers farmers taking short-term agricultural loans. In 2023-24, the previous government failed to select an insurance company, delaying implementation. Now, tenders have been issued, and the selection process is underway to ensure farmers receive coverage soon.
To ensure fairness, rejected claim’s data has also been uploaded to a dedicated portal for review. A legal advocate has also been appointed to provide opinions on the disputed cases. Farmers dissatisfied with claim rejections can also approach the Insurance Regulatory Board, Insurance Ombudsman, or Consumer Forum for resolution.

The government has assured strict action against any irregularities in the insurance process and confirmed that health certificates are not required for claim approval under the Raj Sahakar Personal Accident Insurance Scheme.
