Bihar farmers can avail a 75% subsidy on vegetable cultivation, reducing costs and boosting income under Sabji Vikas Yojana 2024-25.

Good news for farmers in Bihar! The state government has launched the Sabji Vikas Yojana 2024-25, a scheme designed to support vegetable farmers by offering a 75% subsidy on cultivation costs. This initiative aims to make farming more profitable by reducing expenses and promoting the use of high-yield hybrid vegetables.

Big Savings on Vegetable Cultivation

According to Amarjeet Kumar Rai, Assistant Director of the Patna Horticulture Directoratefarmers growing vegetables such as brinjal, watermelon, melon, pumpkin, bitter gourd, ladyfinger, and chillies will get financial support. The cost of each seedling has been set at Rs. 3, but with the subsidy, farmers will only need to pay 75 paise per seedling.

Under this scheme, farmers can receive a minimum subsidy of Rs. 1,000 and up to Rs. 10,000, making vegetable farming more affordable and sustainable.

Who Can Apply?

Farmers must cultivate vegetables on at least 0.25 acres and up to 2.5 acres to qualify for the subsidy. The seedlings will be provided by the Center of Excellence (Vegetable) in Chandi Nalanda, while the Bihar State Seed Corporation, Patna, will distribute seeds.

Documents Needed for Subsidy

Farmers need to provide any one of the following documents:

If a farmer’s name is unclear in the land ownership or revenue records, a genealogy document must be attached. Even non-raiyat farmers (who do not own land) can apply if they have a farming agreement.

How to Apply Online

Farmers can easily apply online through the official Directorate of Horticulture, Bihar website: horticulture.bihar.gov.in. Here’s how:

  1. Visit the official website.
  2. Click on the “Vegetable Development Scheme” option.
  3. Agree to the terms and proceed.
  4. Enter your DBT Farmer Registration Number and apply.
  5. New farmers must first register on the DBT portal to get their registration number.
