The state government is promoting protected cultivation to help farmers save their crops from weather damage. Through the Horticulture Development Scheme, farmers are encouraged to use polyhouses and shade nets. By adopting this technology, farmers can achieve better yields and increase their income.
Farmers can receive a 50% subsidy for constructing polyhouses or shade nets. The cost per square meter for setting up a polyhouse is Rs 935, with a subsidy of Rs 467 per square meter. For shade nets, the cost per square meter is Rs 710, and the subsidy is Rs 355 per square meter.
If a farmer builds a polyhouse over 100 square meters, the total cost is Rs 93,500. With a 50% subsidy, the farmer will receive Rs 46,700 from the government and only need to pay Rs 46,700 from their own pocket. This makes it much more affordable to implement protected farming.
