The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is a significant initiative by the Central Government aimed at providing housing to eligible urban and rural citizens. In a recent decision by the state government, additional benefits have been introduced for PMAY Urban beneficiaries. If a beneficiary completes house construction within 12 months, they will receive a reward of Rs 10,000. This incentive aims to encourage the timely completion of housing projects and ensure that more people can benefit from the scheme without delays.
According to media reports, PMAY Urban 2.0 will now offer extra financial assistance to certain women beneficiaries. The elderly, widows, and abandoned women will receive additional financial aid from the state government.
This proposal by the Urban Development Department has already been approved by the State Cabinet.
To prevent misuse of the scheme, the state government has introduced a condition that the houses built under PMAY Urban 2.0 cannot be sold or transferred for five years. The scheme includes interest subsidies, individual housing construction, affordable housing partnerships, and rental housing schemes to benefit a wider population.

Beneficiaries under different categories of PMAY Urban 2.0 can avail the following subsidies:
Priority will be given to persons with disabilities, senior citizens, Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), widows, unmarried women, minorities, and other disadvantaged groups.
Residents of Uttar Pradesh will receive additional financial assistance and rewards under PMAY Urban 2.0. Before the upcoming cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Prayagraj Mahakumbh, 22 proposals have already been approved. However, further details will be disclosed after the final cabinet meeting.
