Today, on June 21, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the 10th International Day of Yoga celebrations in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir. This event highlighted Yoga's significance for personal wellness and societal harmony.
Since its inception in 2015, the International Day of Yoga has been celebrated worldwide under Prime Minister Modi's leadership. From Delhi to New York's United Nations Headquarters, this year's theme, "Yoga for Self and Society," emphasizes its dual role in individual and community well-being.
Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude for celebrating Yoga in Jammu & Kashmir, a region renowned for its spiritual legacy. He extended his wishes to Yoga practitioners globally and reflected on India's successful UN proposal endorsing Yoga.
Highlighting Yoga's growing global appeal, Modi shared instances of its integration into various country's educational systems and healthcare practices. He mentioned its popularity in Turkmenistan and Germany, emphasizing its role beyond borders.
Modi underscored the expanding Yoga economy, which includes tourism, wellness retreats, and corporate wellness programs, providing new avenues for employment, particularly for the youth.
PM Modi emphasized Yoga's scientific benefits, advocating its role in enhancing focus and managing stress in diverse sectors such as the military and sports. He praised the enthusiastic participation of Srinagar residents despite adverse weather conditions.
