Financial Aid for Home Construction

Under the PMAY Gramin (rural) scheme, eligible beneficiaries are provided an assistance of ₹1.20 lakh for the construction of homes in rural areas. And, ₹1.30 lakh for residents of hilly areas. This amount is given so that the beneficiaries can be supported enough to construct a pucca house- better dwelling and home for living.

Rural housing has been the area of primary interest for government. In this series, on September 15,2024. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will present first installment to over 1.1 lakh new beneficiaries under the PMAY Gramin The Prime Minister will also transfer the amount online into their bank accounts at an event in Jharkhand. The actual size of the first tranche will be revealed at the event.

Installment Schedule

According to media reports, Prime Minister Modi is set to visit Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, on September 15, 2024, where he will oversee the distribution of funds. Along with Jharkhand, beneficiaries from other states across India will also receive the first installment under PMAY Gramin.

During his visit, the Prime Minister will also launch new Vande Bharat trains and address a public meeting in Jamshedpur.

Progress of the Scheme

PMAY Gramin started with substantial success. In total, 86.4 lakh homes have been built under the scheme and by 2024 approval will be given for a grand total of about 1.18 crore houses to come up using the technology under PMAY-U in India. This scheme has a total budget of Rs 8 lakh crore, out of which the central government has released an amount totaling to ₹1.64 lakh crore in cash into Jan Dhan accounts directly.

Long-Awaited Benefits

Some beneficiaries have been waiting for years to receive assistance. In Deoria district, Uttar Pradesh, 144 families who applied in 2018 will finally get financial aid under the PMAY Gramin scheme this year. The approvals have been issued, and their dream of homeownership is closer to reality.

Targets in Bihar

In Bihar, the government aims to build 1,02,942 houses under the scheme. Areas like Seemanchal, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, and Katiar have been given substantial targets for new home construction. The goal is to complete these houses within 100 days.

How Much Aid Will Beneficiaries Receive?

Eligible beneficiaries under PMAY Gramin will receive financial assistance in three installments:

Additionally, the government provides ₹12,000 for constructing toilets under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Beneficiaries who build their own homes also receive 90 days of wages under MNREGA.

Simplified Rules for Faster Payments

To speed up the process, the Uttar Pradesh government has simplified the rules for transferring funds. The money will now be sent directly to beneficiaries' bank accounts from the state headquarters, eliminating delays. Beneficiaries will receive the first installment within 15 days, the second installment after 30 days at the foundation level, and the third installment once the house reaches the roof stage.

With these improvements, the government aims to ensure that every eligible family has a home they can call their own.
