NHPC Limited, known for its expertise in hydropower development, has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ocean Sun, a prominent player in the floating solar sector. This partnership will focus on showcasing Ocean Sun's innovative floating solar technology, which involves mounting photovoltaic panels on hydro-elastic membranes. These panels will be strategically deployed at suitable sites identified by NHPC.
This collaboration underscores NHPC's unwavering commitment to sustainable development and the expansion of renewable energy capacities in India. NHPC has a strong track record in various renewable energy projects including solar, wind, and green hydrogen initiatives, positioning itself as a key player in the country's transition to cleaner energy sources.
The MoU, signed on April 29, 2024, signifies a significant milestone in hybrid energy solutions. Mr. Shri V.R. Shrivastava, Executive Director (Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen) from NHPC, and Mr. Kristian Tørvold, CEO of Ocean Sun, signed the agreement. This strategic partnership aims to harness the combined expertise of both entities to accelerate the adoption of floating solar technology in India.
The signing ceremony witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries including H.E. Ms. May-Elin Stener, the Ambassador of Norway to India, and key officials from NHPC such as Shri Raj Kumar Chaudhary, Director (Technical), and Shri Rajat Gupta, Executive Director (Strategy Business Development & Consultancy), who participated virtually. H.E. Dr. Acquino Vimal, the Ambassador of India to Norway, also joined remotely from Oslo, highlighting the bilateral cooperation between the two nations in a sustainable energy attempt.
