MNREGA wage hike offers financial relief, ranging from 4-10%, benefiting workers across states, ahead of Lok Sabha elections.
To support MNREGA workers before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Central Government has announced an increase in wages. Under the Mahatma Gandhi Employment Guarantee Scheme, laborers will now receive higher pay ranging from 3 to 10 percent. This decision aims to provide financial benefits to the workers. The revised wage rates will come into effect from April 1, 2024.
Uttarakhand and Goa Lead the Way
The Central Government has tailored the wage increase according to the states' requirements. The lowest increase of Rs 7 per day has been implemented in Uttarakhand, while Goa sees the highest increase of Rs 34 per day, marking a 10.56 percent rise. Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand witness a 3.04 percent increase, while West Bengal sees a 5.5 percent rise. Haryana now offers the highest MNREGA wage at Rs 374 per day.

Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have seen a commendable 10 percent increase in MNREGA wages. The wage rates here have been raised from Rs 221 to Rs 243 per day, ensuring equitable pay for laborers.
Haryana establishes a fixed wage rate of Rs 374 per day for unskilled workers under the MNREGA scheme, the highest across states. On the other hand, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland offer the lowest wage at Rs 234 per day.

Wage increases range from 4 to 10 percent across different states. Tamil Nadu sees a Rs 25 increment to reach Rs 319 per day, while Telangana witnesses a rise of Rs 28 to reach Rs 300 per day. Bihar's wage rate climbs by Rs 17 to Rs 228 per day. Despite Haryana having the highest wage rate, the increase stands at around four percent. Overall, MNREGA workers will benefit from a 4 to 10 percent wage increase. Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, and Telangana record a significant 10 percent hike in MNREGA wages. This increase in wages is expected to provide relief to MNREGA workers and improve their livelihoods across various states in India.
