In 2024, around 82,000 farmers in Sirsa district applied for insurance claims after their crops were damaged due to adverse weather, pests, and diseases. The AgricultureDepartment has now started transferring claim amounts directly to farmer’s bank accounts, bringing relief to many.
Officials have assured that the remaining farmers will receive their insurance claims soon. Deputy Director of Agriculture, Sukhdev Singh Kamboj, stated that some claims were under review due to queries raised by the insurance company regarding crop damage in 15 villages. The department is working on resolving these queries to ensure that all eligible farmers receive their compensation.
The insurance claim distribution is based on crop yield assessments conducted in affected villages. Farmers who had insured cotton, paddy, and millet under the Kharif 2024 season are eligible for compensation. So far, claims have been issued only for cotton crops, while compensation for paddy and millet is still pending.
