The government will provide affordable land at Rs 2-10 per square meter and housing aid to nomadic families under this scheme.
The government has announced a new housing scheme to provide affordable land to nomadic and semi-nomadic families. Under this scheme, plots will be available at concessional rates ranging from Rs 2 to Rs 10 per square meter. Additionally, the government will issue land leases to the beneficiaries.
The central government launched the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to help needy and poor people own homes. This scheme offers loans and subsidies for both rural and urban residents to buy or construct houses. State governments have also introduced similar schemes to assist their citizens. Recently, the state government decided to offer land at concessional rates between Rs 2 and Rs 10 per square meter to families in rural areas who lack permanent housing. Around 300 square yards of land will be allotted to selected homeless families at these rates.

The Rajasthan government had earlier announced plans to offer land at subsidized rates to nomadic and semi-nomadic families, but the rates had not been finalized. Now, the rates have been set, and land will be allotted accordingly.
The concessional rates for land allocation are based on the 1991 census data. Here’s how the rates are structured:
The Chief Minister will distribute land leases during a state-level event on 2 October 2024. Leases will also be distributed through Gram Sabhas in the villages.

The process of identifying inhabited land for homeless families has been completed in all villages, and Panchayats have submitted their reports to the Panchayat Raj Department. The deadline for submitting these reports was 29 August 2024. Applications for this scheme are currently being accepted. If you belong to a nomadic or semi-nomadic homeless family, you can apply for land in your village until 5 September 2024. Gram Panchayats will pass proposals for land allotment by 25 September 2024.
The government has also promised financial assistance to build homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The scheme provides a subsidy of Rs 1.20 lakh for constructing homes in plain areas and Rs 1.30 lakh for homes in hilly or difficult-to-reach areas.
Nomadic people are those who move frequently from place to place to earn a living and do not have a permanent home. They live in temporary structures. Semi-nomadic people also travel to earn a living but return to their homes at least once a year. The castes that fall under the nomadic and semi-nomadic categories include Jogi, Khangas, Sindhulas, Jalukas, Kanglus, Bhayas, Kanis, Rath, Mangalisa, Rebaris, and others.
