Farmers in Punjab and Haryana have been protesting for months, demanding a guaranteed law on MSP. Despite several attempts to march to Delhi, their demands were often met with resistance from security forces. However, the Haryana government, led by Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini, has now taken a big step by announcing the purchase of 24 crops at MSP, offering relief to the farmer community.
Before the upcoming Haryana assembly elections, Chief Minister Saini had promised to buy 24 crops at MSP. While no formal steps were taken earlier, the recent notification solidifies the government’s commitment. Previously, government agencies procured 14 crops at MSP. Now, with the addition of 10 more crops, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has ensured the inclusion of 24 crops in total.
The notification provides a detailed list of crops that will be procured at MSP. These crops are:
Even though crops like ragi, soybean, nigerseed, and jute are not commonly grown in Haryana, they are included to align with central government policies.

Farmers who wish to sell their crops at MSP must register on the ‘Meri Fasal Mera Byora’ portal. This ensures transparency and also enables the farmers to receive fair prices without exploitation from the middlemen.
The central government has designated agencies such as FCI (Food Corporation of India), CCI (Cotton Corporation of India), JCI (Jute Corporation of India), and NAFED (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation) to procure crops. While some crops like maize and barley have market prices higher than MSP, their inclusion in the notification guarantees farmers a backup price if market rates fall.
This move by the Haryana government demonstrates a strong commitment to farmers. It provides income stability, safeguards against unpredictable market rates, and strengthens the state’s agricultural economy. Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini's initiative comes as a positive step ahead of the elections, aiming to win the trust of the farming community.
By ensuring the purchase of these crops at MSP, the Haryana government is not just protecting farmers but also encouraging sustainable agricultural practices in the state.
