Harvest Plus Solutions and Yara India collaboration aims to establish Nutri-Farms with Smallholder Farmers in India.
By leveraging Yara's expertise in crop nutrition and HPS's innovative solutions, the project aims to empower farmers with sustainable farming practices while promoting the production of nutrient-rich crops.
To enhance agriculture sustainability and nutrition in India, Harvest Plus Solutions (HPS) and Yara India, a subsidiary of Yara International, a global crop nutrition company, have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The collaboration aims to establish nutri farms with Smallholder Farmers in India, with an initial focus on integrating 500 farmers in the Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh into the Zinc Wheat value chain.
The strategic partnership between HPS and Yara India addresses the challenges faced by smallholder farmers in achieving optimal crop nutrition and yields. By leveraging Yara's expertise in crop nutrition and HPS's innovative solutions, the project aims to empower farmers with sustainable farming practices while promoting the production of nutrient-rich crops.
The Nutri-Farms project will specifically target the integration of farmers into the Zinc Wheat value chain, emphasizing the importance of zinc in wheat cultivation. Zinc is an important micronutrient for plant growth and human nutrition, and its deficiency in soil can adversely affect crop yields and nutritional content. By incorporating zinc-enriched practices, the project aims to improve crop productivity and enhance the nutritional quality of the harvested wheat.

This will help to increase food quality while also improving farmers' income and livelihoods. Furthermore, the initiative will encourage collaboration with public sector players to foster the use of nutrition-smart agriculture approaches.
Harvest Plus Solutions is an international leader in the development and marketing of nutrient-rich biofortified crops. In India, Yara India is a significant provider of crop nutrition solutions. Both companies hope to bring change that promotes sustainable agricultural methods and improves crop nutrition and output by collaborating on their knowledge.
Yara South Asia's Managing Director, Sanjiv Kanwar, expressed excitement about the relationship with Harvest Plus Solutions. He emphasized the shared commitment to a transformative path for nutritional security, highlighting sustainable alternatives for a more environmentally friendly food future.
The collaboration aims to increase agricultural productivity, improve food quality, improve farmer livelihoods, and effect positive changes in food systems for a healthier and more resilient future. Gorakhpur district in Uttar Pradesh has been selected as the pilot location for this transformative initiative.
The collaborative effort will provide farmers with access to advanced agricultural technologies, training programs, and customized nutrient management practices. Through the integration of digital solutions and precision agriculture techniques, the project aims to optimize resource utilization and reduce environmental impact.
