Farmers in Haryana have been eagerly awaiting the procurement of mustard at a Minimum Support Price (MSP) as the market prices dropped below the MSP. With the onset of the Rabi crop harvesting season, this announcement brought relief to many farmers who were concerned about the ongoing market trends.
Haryana's Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Jaiprakash Dalal, took to Twitter to announce the commencement dates for procuring wheat and mustard. According to his tweet, mustard procurement at MSP will kickstart from March 26, 2024, while wheat procurement will begin on April 1. The state government assures that preparations for the procurement process are complete, with procurement centers established across the state to facilitate farmers in selling their crops.
For the Rabi season, procurement centers have been set up in various districts of Haryana. In the Sirsa district alone, 63 procurement centers have been established, including four new ones. These centers are spread across several villages to ensure accessibility for farmers. Similarly, procurement centers have been set up in other districts as well, totaling 104 centers across the state. Mustard purchases will be conducted by the Haryana State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Ltd (HAFED) for the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED).
The Central Government has set the MSP for mustard at Rs 5650 for the Rabi marketing season 2024, which is Rs 200 higher than the previous season. This rate will be offered to farmers for their mustard crops. Additionally, the moisture content of mustard has been standardized at 8 percent for procurement. Farmers are advised to ensure proper drying of their mustard crops before sale to avoid price discrepancies.
