Farmers can now access a 50% subsidy on moong seeds, promoting cultivation, enhancing income, and soil fertility through green manure.
As fields lie vacant after the harvesting of Rabi crops, farmers are seeking opportunities to maximize their profits. Moong cultivation emerges as a profitable option during this period, offering additional income and enhancing the fertility of the soil. Recognizing its benefits, several state governments are extending subsidies to encourage farmers to cultivate moong.
Moong cultivation offers dual advantages to farmers. Not only does it provide additional income, but it also improves the health of the soil. Moong can be utilized as green manure, enriching the soil with nutrients essential for the growth of the crops. Its cultivation enhances the fertility of the land, ensuring higher yields in the subsequent crops.
Under the subsidy scheme, the government is providing a 50 percent subsidy on moong seeds to farmers. This initiative aims to make improved moong seeds more accessible to farmers at a reduced rate. For instance, if a kilogram of moong seed costs Rs. 80, then after availing of the subsidy the farmers will only be needed to pay Rs. 40 per kilogram.

Registered farmers can directly purchase subsidized seeds from the designated platform.
Apart from UP, states like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Haryana are also providing subsidies for summer moong cultivation. In Haryana, farmers can avail themselves of a 75 percent subsidy on moong seeds till April 15, 2024. The registration process for subsidy application can be completed on the official website of the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department (agriharyana.gov.in).
