Farmers will receive compensation for crop losses due to floods before Diwali, ensuring timely relief and support.

The state government has decided to provide relief and double the happiness of farmers during the festive season. The officials have been instructed to ensure that the compensation amount reaches the farmers as soon as possible. Every eligible farmer in the state who faced crop loss due to excessive rain and floods will receive compensation.

According to the Special Secretary of the Agriculture Department, Virendra Prasad Yadav, the crop damage occurred in two phases of floods this year:

Who Will Get Compensation?

Farmers in Bihar whose crops were damaged due to heavy rains or floods are eligible for compensation. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has directed officials to ensure that no farmer is left out from receiving crop loss compensation. The Agriculture Department is working swiftly to provide relief, and the compensation process is being expedited to reach farmers before Diwali.

Impact of Floods on Agriculture in Bihar

Media reports indicate that the floods affected 92 blocks in 19 districts, damaging crops across 2,24,597 hectares of land. The floods caused over 33% damage to crops in 91,817 hectares. Banana crops in areas like Karnapura, Saraipur, and the Diara region were particularly affected, with 534 acres of banana plantations severely damaged.

Financial Aid for Flood-Affected Families

The Bihar government has also transferred financial aid directly to the accounts of flood-affected families. In the second phase, ₹225.25 crore has been released through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) to around 3.21 lakh families. In total, ₹532.22 crore has been transferred to more than 7 lakh families across the state.

UP Government’s Compensation for Farmers

In addition to Bihar, the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has also provided compensation to over 3 lakh farmers affected by floods. A total amount of ₹163.151 crore has been distributed to 3,12,866 farmers across 34 districts. Lakhimpur Kheri witnessed the highest crop damage, with ₹70.88 crore paid to 1.10 lakh farmers. Similarly, compensation has been distributed to farmers in Lalitpur and Siddharthnagar districts.
