In an effort to promote smart agriculture, the government is providing subsidies to farmers for purchasing drones and using them for spraying medicines and nutrients on crops. This initiative aims to modernize traditional farming practices, reduce costs, and save time for farmers.
Bihar Agriculture Minister Mangal Pandey recently inaugurated a drone exhibition at the Krishi Bhawan campus, showcasing the benefits of technology in agriculture. Minister Pandey announced that the state government has implemented a subsidy program for purchasing agricultural drones. Farmers across all 101 subdivisions in Bihar can now avail of this subsidy.
The event saw participation from over 100 progressive farmers from six districts, including Patna, Siwan, and Nalanda. More than 100 Jeevika Didis (members of women’s self-help groups) also joined the program. During the event, the Agriculture Minister and Jeevika Didis operated drones, highlighting their ease of use.
Under the National Agriculture Development Scheme, the government is offering a 60% subsidy, or up to ₹3.65 lakh, on purchasing agricultural drones for the 2024-25 period. Farmers will also receive a 50% subsidy on spraying costs, capped at ₹240 per acre.
To further boost women’s involvement in agriculture, the Namo Drone Didi Scheme plans to distribute 14,500 drones to self-help groups across India by 2025-26. The central government has allocated ₹1,261 crore for this initiative.

Bihar Agriculture Secretary Sanjay Agarwal emphasized that drones are ideal for spraying liquid fertilizers and pesticides. This technology is part of the government’s larger effort to make Indian agriculture smarter and more efficient.
Female drone pilots, like Juhi Kumar from Rohtas district, are leading the way in showcasing how drones can be used to spray crops and even feed fish in ponds. Such initiatives not only benefit farmers but also create new opportunities for women in rural areas.
The government is committed to popularizing drones among farmers. Subsidized drones will be made available in every subdivision of Bihar under the Popularization of Aerial Spray of Pesticide and Liquid Fertilizer by Drone in PPP Mode Scheme for 2024-25.
Agriculture Minister Pandey concluded by stating that drone technology is a game-changer for Indian farming, helping to boost production, reduce costs, and make farming smarter and more sustainable.
Farmers interested in availing of this subsidy can contact their local agricultural offices or visit official government portals for further details.
By adopting drones, Indian farmers are taking a step closer to modern, efficient, and profitable farming methods. This initiative is not only transforming agriculture but also empowering rural communities.
