The Uttar Pradesh government has introduced this scheme as a Diwali gift for farmers. Biogas plants will be set up in four districts, allowing farmers to access eco-friendly energy at a reduced cost. The main goals of this initiative are to lower carbon emissions, increase the use of organic fertilizers in farming, and provide additional income to rural households.
Under this plan, the government will install 2,250 biogas plants in rural areas of Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, and Gonda. These biogas plants will supply clean cooking fuel and produce organic fertilizer that is highly beneficial for agriculture. The Environment Directorate of Uttar Pradesh has approved Sistema Bio Sanstha to install these biogas plants.
The total cost of each biogas plant is Rs. 39,300. However, farmers will only need to pay Rs. 3,990. The rest will be covered through subsidies provided by the central government’s financial assistance and carbon credit sales. The scheme especially benefits women, small, and marginal farmers, offering them a low-cost and sustainable energy solution.

Sistema Bio Sanstha will sell the carbon credits earned from the biogas plants, generating Rs. 20,960 to reduce costs for farmers. This innovative carbon financing model is environmentally friendly and ensures long-term benefits for farmers.
Sistema Bio will provide service support for 10 years to ensure the smooth functioning of the plants. Farmers can also earn extra income by trading carbon credits through eco-friendly agricultural practices. Many global companies purchase these credits to support sustainability.
A biogas plant converts animal and agricultural waste into biogas and organic fertilizer. It’s a simple and cost-effective way for farmers to recycle cow dung and other waste. The biogas produced contains about 75% methane, a clean-burning gas that can be used for cooking, lighting, and even running agricultural machinery. The leftover slurry can be turned into rich organic fertilizer within 25-30 days, which is great for crop growth.
For farmers with 4 to 5 cows or buffaloes, a 2 cubic meter biogas plant can handle around 50 kg of dung and produce energy equivalent to two LPG cylinders each month.
This biogas plant scheme is a great opportunity for farmers to access clean energy, reduce costs, and earn additional income while contributing to environmental protection. Through this initiative, the Yogi government is paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future for farmers in Uttar Pradesh.
