Key Highlights

  • 90% subsidy on paddy seeds for farmers.
  • Apply online at the Seed Subsidy Scheme website.
  • Sowing targets are set for various Kharif crops, including maize and pulses.
  • 50% subsidy for planting horticultural crops like bananas and mangoes.
  • Improved irrigation with check dams, ponds, and wells.

The state government has announced a significant subsidy on paddy seeds for farmers, offering them at a 90% discount. This initiative aims to support farmers as they prepare to sow Kharif crops with the onset of monsoon rains.

How Farmers Can Benefit

Farmers who wish to take advantage of this subsidy need to apply for it. By doing so, they can receive paddy seeds at a much lower price, helping to reduce their overall production costs and increase their yield.

Sowing Targets for Other Crops

In addition to paddy, the state government has set specific sowing targets for other Kharif crops:

  • Maize: 2.93 lakh hectares
  • Arhar (Pigeon Pea): 0.56 lakh hectares
  • Green Gram: 0.17 lakh hectares

For coarse cereals, the targets are:

  • Millet: 0.15 lakh hectares
  • Sorghum: 0.16 lakh hectares
  • Madua (Finger Millet): 0.29 lakh hectares

The target for pulses is 0.11 lakh hectares.

Subsidy Details

Under the Chief Minister's Intensive Seed Expansion Scheme, farmers will receive 5069.52 quintals of paddy seed at a 90% subsidy. For paddy and wheat seeds, this translates to a subsidy of Rs. 40 per kilogram for half an acre of land. Additionally, farmers will get Rs. 108 per kilogram for improved seeds of pulse crops on ¼ acre of land. Advanced seeds for jowar, madua, and sawa will also be available at a 50% subsidy.

  1. Visit the website.
  2. Click on the "seed application" option.
  3. Enter your farmer registration number and search.
  4. Apply online for the seed grant.

Subsidy for Horticultural Crops

Bihar's government also encourages the cultivation of horticultural crops through subsidies under the National Horticulture Mission and Chief Minister Horticulture Mission Scheme. This Kharif season, the aim is to expand fruit tree planting to 7079 hectares. Farmers will receive 50% subsidies for planting tissue culture bananas, mango, litchi, guava, and amla.

Under the Special Horticulture Crop Scheme, grants will also be provided for tea cultivation over 100 hectares, with a 50% subsidy on the unit cost of Rs. 4.94 lakh per hectare.

Improved Irrigation Facilities

The state government plans to enhance irrigation facilities to ensure good crop production. The Directorate of Land Conservation and Bihar Jalchajan Vikas Samiti will work on land and water conservation projects. Under the Saat Nishchay-2 scheme, 212 check dams will be constructed to provide irrigation water. Additionally, 207 ponds and 100 wells will be built from the state plan fund, whereas check dams cannot be constructed.

This comprehensive plan aims to support farmers through subsidies, better seeds, and improved irrigation, ensuring a productive Kharif season.
