DEUTZ partners with TAFE Motors to expand engine production and market reach in India and the APAC region.

Key Highlights

DEUTZ has announced a new partnership with India's agricultural giant TAFE Motors and Tractors Limited. This move is part of DEUTZ's Dual+ strategy, which aims to develop alternative drive systems and expand its internal combustion engine business.

Expanding in India

The collaboration with TAFE Motors, a subsidiary of TAFE, the third-largest tractor manufacturer globally, allows DEUTZ to tap into India's rapidly growing market. In 2023, India's economy grew by about 6 to 7 percent, and it is projected that the country's GDP will quadruple by 2050. The agricultural and construction sectors are expected to play a significant role in this growth.

Manufacturing Agreement

As part of the long-term cooperation, TAFE Motors will manufacture up to 30,000 DEUTZ engines annually. These engines, ranging from 2.2 liters (50-75 hp) to 2.9 liters (75-100 hp), will be produced under license at TAFE Motors' modern facility in Alwar, Rajasthan. This production will meet the growing demands of the Indian market and DEUTZ's requirements, complementing the group's wide range of engines across various emission standards.

Strategic Benefits

DEUTZ plans to use the Indian manufacturing base to market its engines in neighboring regions, especially in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) area. This strategy will benefit from production and logistics advantages. Dr. Sebastian C. Schulte, DEUTZ CEO, highlighted that this cooperation secures access to growing markets with strong potential and long-term prospects. It also helps DEUTZ maintain competitive production costs and reduces dependence on a challenging supplier landscape influenced by technological and geopolitical changes.

Enhancing Supply Chains

The partnership with TAFE Motors will enable DEUTZ to diversify its supplier base, ensuring more efficient and resilient production. This move will also reduce dependence on supply chains in geopolitically tense regions while maintaining cost benefits. DEUTZ's German production sites are expected to benefit significantly from this cooperation.

Mutual Benefits

Sandeep Sinha, CEO of TAFE Motors, emphasized the mutual benefits of the partnership. The cooperation will provide access to shared resources and technologies, enabling the production of engines that meet the demands of both domestic and international markets. Additionally, DEUTZ will gain access to high-quality engines at competitive costs for new applications in India and other relevant markets.

Future Prospects

Both DEUTZ and TAFE Motors are exploring opportunities to expand their cooperation to include green drives, aligning with the global shift towards sustainable and environmentally friendly technologies.
