Maharashtra government removes 25,000 ineligible women from Ladli Behna Yojana after verification process.
The Mukhyamantri Ladli Behna Yojana is one of the most popular welfare schemes for women. After the success of this scheme in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra also launched a similar initiative, called the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, before the elections. Under this scheme, eligible women receive financial assistance of Rs 1,500 per month to support their basic needs.
However, recent reports indicate that around 25,000 women from Maharashtra have been excluded from this scheme. As a result, they will not receive the next installment of financial aid.

The Maharashtra government has started a verification process to ensure that only eligible women benefit from the scheme. In the Latur district alone, 25,136 applications have been rejected after verification. The primary reasons for exclusion include:
More than 5 lakh women in Latur were receiving benefits from the scheme. However, after scrutiny, these 25,000 women have been found ineligible and removed from the list of beneficiaries.
Complaints of irregularities in applications led to a strict verification process by the Maharashtra government. According to the Zilla Parishad Department, in the Latur district:
Due to fear of legal action, some individuals voluntarily withdrew their names from the scheme.
According to reports, the seventh installment of the scheme was transferred to the accounts of more than 2.41 crore women in January. Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare has stated that the government will not reclaim the money already disbursed to ineligible women. However, moving forward, only eligible women will receive benefits.
Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar has clarified that the Ladki Bahin Yojana will continue but with strict eligibility checks. Women will be excluded if:
To apply for the scheme, women must be between 21 and 60 years old, and their family income should not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh annually. Proper documentation is mandatory to avoid disqualification.
